Imagine buying a $2,000 FAX server when your company already owns one. Imagine procuring 3 $7,500 high volume printers in order to keep slow network times from impacting printing work. What if you want to add capabilities, but none of your staff can tell you where on the network it should be placed? All of these scenarios are problems that occur when network and IT resources are not documented. One of Advotech's recent customers was in the unfortunate position of owning a rather extensive network that had just "happened". An unplanned, decades long series of IT investments that was now cobbled together to provide specific functions and support some long useless purposes as well. Advotech assisted this company in documenting existing network infrastructure, creating logicial topology diagrams, and creating idealized topology diagrams. This had three profound effects on our client. 1. They now had documented solutions that anyone could repair. 2. They could now identify trouble areas of the network design. 3. They could now redesign the network effectively without losing necessary functions. Advotech always documents all of our solutions and strongly recommends that our clients maintain current documentation as a means of keeping control of their systems, expenditures, and capabilities.
